710 Freeway
June 26, 2025
This three-year project is a Joint Venture between Myers and Sons Construction and Shimmick Construction, aimed at the full rehabilitation and partial widening of the I-710 Freeway from Imperial Highway to Interstate 10. As a critical freight corridor connecting the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to the rest of the United States, this stretch of freeway experiences heavy congestion and significant wear from high volumes of truck traffic.
To address these challenges, Caltrans opted for an innovative design using precast, post-tensioned concrete panels instead of traditional concrete paving. Upon completion, this will be the largest precast panel project in the nation, with over 4,300 panels installed.
In addition to the panel work, the project includes:
- Seven bridge replacements or widenings
- Fourteen retaining walls
- Polyester concrete overlays
- 51,000 cubic yards of conventional concrete paving
- 53,600 cubic yards of rapid strength concrete pavement
- 31,000 linear feet of concrete barrier
