I-70 Hanging Lake Tunnel Retrofit CMGC

March 18, 2016

Job Number: 0112

The Hanging Lake Tunnels (HLT), located at Mile Post 125 on Interstate 70, are a critical transportation facility originally opened in 1992. Each tunnel carries two lanes of one-way traffic and spans approximately 4,300 feet at an elevation of 6,300 feet. The Cinnamon Creek Control Complex (CCC), a partially earth-sheltered structure near the midpoint of the tunnels, serves as the primary access point for vehicles and personnel via two vertical telescoping overhead doors. Originally intended for limited daily use, these service doors have experienced increased operational demands and maintenance challenges, significantly reducing their service life. After evaluating rehabilitation and replacement options, full replacement was recommended to improve reliability and reduce ongoing maintenance. Myers & Sons Construction was selected through a competitive RFQ/RFP process to serve as the CMGC contractor for the door replacement. The project requires maintaining full tunnel operations throughout construction. Myers & Sons will coordinate closely with CDOT and facility stakeholders to ensure safe and efficient execution in this highly specialized and confined environment.
