Richmond Sludge Thickener Design Build

June 26, 2025

Job Number: 0313

The City of Richmond's Sludge Thickener Project is a significant upgrade to the Richmond Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plant, enhancing solids handling capacity and operational efficiency. Myers successfully completed the construction of a new sludge thickening facility, equipped with modernized systems, including rotary drum thickeners (RDTs), new WAS (Waste Activated Sludge) and RDT feed pumps, a Rotamix sludge mixing system, and an advanced odor control system. Supporting infrastructure includes reinforced concrete tanks, electrical and SCADA upgrades, as well as new yard piping and structural improvements. These upgrades enhance sludge concentration prior to digestion, optimize energy utilization, and lower operational costs. Myers completed all new construction and is now awaiting permit approval to proceed with the final operational testing and demolition of the old infrastructure. This project showcases our expertise in delivering complex wastewater treatment upgrades, and we're proud to contribute to the City of Richmond's commitment to sustainability and resilient infrastructure, ensuring regulatory compliance and improved service reliability for the community.
