Following the 2011 Arterial Intersection Prioritization Study, the Horsetooth Road and College Avenue intersection was identified as a high-priority location for safety and operational improvements due to peak-hour congestion and a high rate of left-turn collisions. Myers & Sons was selected to deliver a comprehensive reconstruction of the intersection.
The scope of work included full concrete pavement reconstruction, the addition of dual left-turn lanes in all directions, and new right-turn lanes with pedestrian refuge islands along College Avenue. The project also involved full replacement of the Horsetooth Road bridge over Larimer Canal No. 2 and widening of the College Avenue bridge at the same crossing. Additional improvements included new medians, a modern signal system, updated landscaping, and enhanced urban design features.
These upgrades were designed to improve traffic flow, enhance safety, and provide better facilities for pedestrians and cyclists, while contributing to the overall aesthetic and functionality of the corridor.
